A Faster Path to "What's My Car Worth?"

A shorter, simpler appraisal flow tripled submission volume and doubled the number of sellers accepting their offer.

Team: Product managers, Product designer (me), Developers

(My role: UX/UI design, QA)

Problems

  • The photo submission step had a high bounce rate. Many users quit there.
  • Getting an accurate appraisal price took too long.

Goals

  • Increase the completion rate by shortening the process.

  • Increase the number of users who accept their appraisal offer.

Hypothesis

  • Remove photo submission. Use the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to pull vehicle details automatically.
  • Show the appraisal price immediately after submission, instead of making users wait.

Research and Discovery

Using existing product data, we ran work sessions to define the MVP. I mapped the user journey and began sketching the new experience.

Prototype and Usability Testing

I built prototypes from the user flows and sketches, then ran usability testing to validate the design with real users.

Results

3x more submission volume than the old tool.

41% drop-off on the first page, but every step after that kept over 95% of users.
Showing the redesigned flow itself worked once people got past the entry point.

2x more users accepted their appraisal price.
